BAAM Public Art Project - Call for Teaching Artist

Easton Elementary School and BAAM Athletic Center

Building African American Minds (BAAM) is looking for a Teaching Artist to facilitate art classes for after school students in grades 1-5. Starting September 2024, the Teaching Artist will work with students over a course of 6 to 8 weeks where they will design artistic outdoor benches. The students’ designs will be considered for the final design that will appear on proposed benches to be located outside of the BAAM Athletic Center. Artists across all visual and performing arts mediums are welcome!


This project is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.


Preferred Qualifications:

- 2-3 yearsʼ experience as an active, practicing artist (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, or similar credentials appreciated)

- Experience teaching school aged children

- Experience working within school programs

- Culturally competent and responsible teaching practice

- Must pass background check


Teaching Artist Requested Skills:

- Design and implement a well-planned lesson

- Experience teaching art workshops

- Strong communication skills


Terms of Employment:

Teaching Artist is hired as an independent contractor and will be paid a stipend of $3,000.
