Director of Development

Job Overview: Building African American Minds (BAAM) is seeking a strategic, results-oriented Director of Development to lead our transition from a successful $1.5M “mom and pop” nonprofit into a $2.5M+ sustainable institution. Having recently completed our state-of-the-art Academic Center, we are looking for a “Growth Architect” to manage our current 100+ donor base and build a $20M endowment.

This is a “Sales-First” development role. You will be supported by an external marketing agency for creative collateral, allowing you to focus 80% of your time on donor cultivation, grant solicitation, and database integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Generation: Execute a strategy to secure $1.5M for annual operations and $1M annually for the endowment.
  • Database Stewardship: Take full ownership of Network for Good. We require a “data-first” professional who will ensure every gift is tracked, acknowledged, and reconciled with our CFO (QuickBooks).
  • Major Gift Solicitation: Move our current individual donor base (75% of revenue) into higher-level giving tiers.
  • Marketing Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for our external marketing agency. You define the “Sales Message”; they build the “Marketing Support.”
  • Grant Leadership: Diversify our revenue by securing larger-scale private and government grants.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5-7+ years in professional fundraising (not just marketing or events).
  • The “Close”: Proven track record of personally soliciting and closing $25k-$100k+ gifts.
  • Planned Giving: Familiarity with endowment building and legacy giving.
  • CRM Expert: High proficiency in Network for Good or similar donor databases.
  • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to the empowerment of African American youth in the Easton community.

Administrative Assistant to Executive Director

This is a central role at BAAM — serving as the first point of contact for families, visitors, and donors while also supporting the Executive Director (ED), HR, Accounting, IT, and Facilities. The right candidate will be tech-savvy, organized, and ready to balance both front-facing and behind-the-scenes responsibilities.

The position is designed as a stepping-stone role, with the opportunity to grow into an Office Manager position after one year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level support to the ED, including scheduling, correspondence, and meeting prep.
  • Assist with HR, Accounting, and IT administrative tasks.
  • Manage office operations: supplies, systems, scheduling, and digital filing.
  • Act as first point of contact for visitors, families, and donors.
  • Support staff in using Google Workspace and Mac systems; provide basic IT troubleshooting (accounts, logins, printers, software tools).
  • Help manage organizational accounts (Google Voice, Zoom, QuickBooks, ApprovalMax, Network for Good, etc.).
  • Create flyers and simple materials for programs and events.
  • Track and enforce internal deadlines, especially for board and staff deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and comfort in a Mac environment.
  • Familiarity with basic IT support (user accounts, troubleshooting, password resets).
  • Experience with nonprofit operations; Network for Good experience preferred.
  • Ability to design basic flyers (Google Docs/Canva).
  • Professional presence with excellent customer service skills.
  • Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish/English or Haitian Creole/English) and/or strong local ties.
