Who We Are

Our Mission

Building African American Minds teaches underserved children and adults how to achieve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to maximize or augment their potential as responsible and productive citizens through academic, social and emotional learning programs.

BAAM seeks to create a community culture where success in school and in life is the norm and not the exception.

Building African American Minds

Our Journey

The seed for BAAM was planted by Derick and Dina Daly, who began with a scholarship fund to support local Black male students entering college. With the encouragement of community leaders, that vision quickly expanded into an after-school program designed to provide academic support, mentorship, and a safe environment for growth. What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a powerful movement committed to education, empowerment, and opportunity.

Today, BAAM continues to build on that foundation by creating programs that inspire achievement, strengthen families, and connect communities. Whether through leadership development, career exploration, or enrichment activities, every initiative reflects our mission to uplift African American youth and invest in a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Empower the Future

Our Commitment to Community and Growth

At BAAM we believe in the power of community and the limitless potential of our youth. Our work is rooted in a commitment to educational equity, mentorship, and leadership development. Through after-school programs, enrichment activities, and initiatives, we equip our community with the academic support, life skills, and confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond.

We collaborate with families and organizational partners to create a nurturing environment that fosters personal growth, civic engagement, and long-term success. Every program is designed with purpose—grounded in data, shaped by community voice, and focused on measurable impact. Join us in building a future where every young person is empowered to reach their full potential.
