Director of Development

Job Overview: Building African American Minds (BAAM) is seeking a strategic, results-oriented Director of Development to lead our transition from a successful $1.5M “mom and pop” nonprofit into a $2.5M+ sustainable institution. Having recently completed our state-of-the-art Academic Center, we are looking for a “Growth Architect” to manage our current 100+ donor base and build a $20M endowment.

This is a “Sales-First” development role. You will be supported by an external marketing agency for creative collateral, allowing you to focus 80% of your time on donor cultivation, grant solicitation, and database integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Generation: Execute a strategy to secure $1.5M for annual operations and $1M annually for the endowment.
  • Database Stewardship: Take full ownership of Network for Good. We require a “data-first” professional who will ensure every gift is tracked, acknowledged, and reconciled with our CFO (QuickBooks).
  • Major Gift Solicitation: Move our current individual donor base (75% of revenue) into higher-level giving tiers.
  • Marketing Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for our external marketing agency. You define the “Sales Message”; they build the “Marketing Support.”
  • Grant Leadership: Diversify our revenue by securing larger-scale private and government grants.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5-7+ years in professional fundraising (not just marketing or events).
  • The “Close”: Proven track record of personally soliciting and closing $25k-$100k+ gifts.
  • Planned Giving: Familiarity with endowment building and legacy giving.
  • CRM Expert: High proficiency in Network for Good or similar donor databases.
  • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to the empowerment of African American youth in the Easton community.
